It’s been a few months since I posted here (okay, nearly a year if we’re being honest) and things look a little different to the last time anybody saw the website. I’ve given the blog a fresh new look, and there’s a whole load of posts already in the works. I didn’t forget about this place, a lot has happened in both my personal life and business that required me to take a step back. I won’t bore you with the details of why I was gone, just know that it was unavoidable.
I’ve returned just in time for the 2017 edition of 30 Days Wild, which if you’ve been here before you’ll know was the driving force behind me starting this blog last year. I’ve signed up again and I’m really looking forward to taking part. It did wonders for my mental health last year and if I’m honest, that’s exactly what I need right now. I’ll definitely be blogging about that throughout June!
“All our lives are better if they’re a bit wild…”
If you don’t know what 30 Days Wild is, it’s the Wildlife Trust’s challenge to make room for nature and do something wild each day throughout the month of June. My experience with it last year was amazing! I learnt so much through both first-hand experience and the lovely community of people taking part and it rekindled a love for the great outdoors that I’d lost touch with over the years.
From days spent exploring Cornwall to evenings curled up watching nature documentaries or with my head in a book about bugs, I fully embraced the wild last June. I even got asked to do a guest blog post for my local wildlife trust! If you’d like to read my blog posts from 2016’s wild days click here.
I also compiled this little video of clips from throughout the month which is fun to look back on (although also kind of cringey, I’ve definitely improved my video skills a bit in the past year).
Whilst nature has always been a big part of my life, it’s easy to get caught up in day to day life and forget to make the time for it. I’m sure many of you can relate! My health, both physical and mental, hasn’t been the best over the past few months and that, combined with those pesky winter blues, hasn’t done much to draw me outside despite all logical parts of my brain knowing that nature is exactly what I need.
I received my 30 Days Wild pack in the post this morning and I’m so ready for a summer of adventure. It looks like the wildlife is welcoming me back too! As I write this post I’ve just spotted a bat flying around outside of my window, the first time I’ve seen one here in a few years. We’ve also had a hedgehog return to the garden recently which has been a lovely surprise.
Are you taking part this year? I’d love to hear from anyone who will be documenting their wild life this June!
Sign up to take the challenge! It’s free and lots of fun.
