Seeing as everyone else is mentioning it… There happened to be some weather last night (major understatement). Given the nature (heh) of this blog, it would be kinda crazy for me to not write about the most insane storm I’ve ever seen.
In St. Austell we were right on the edge of it so lacked some of the drama that my friends in Plymouth reported, but I was still in absolute awe of the sheer power of mother nature last night.
The pictures and videos I’m seeing come out of the heart of the storm are jaw-dropping. Where I am most of the lightning forks were hidden by low clouds or off in the distance, but that didn’t make it any less impressive. Even where I was the sky strobed in every direction providing an immersive experience completely unlike anything else I’ve witnessed in my time on the planet.
By the time I grabbed my camera it was already in the distance. I wasn’t really thinking straight as I’d just woke up and was enjoying just watching it. None of the shots or videos I grabbed are particularly impressive, but the Plymouth Herald (a website I never expected to be linking to) have put together a gallery of shots from other people who were closer to the heart of it.
The video below is not a great video by any stretch of the imagination, but it helps show just how constant it was even on the outskirts of the storm and towards the end.
